All awake

I spent much of the afternoon feeling dozy in the office. Tonight I went to bed knowing that it was late but that I felt quite awake.

Well, I guess that's insomnia for you. It's just turned 2.50am and I have just made myself a mug of tea after lying awake for over an hour wondering whether I might be more comfortable breathing through my mouth as my nose annoyingly blocks when I lie down. Now I am up again, my eyes are beginning to feel tired. Hopefully that will spread to the rest of me shortly and I'll actually get a few hours sleep.

Earlier on I started putting together a playlist on my iPod for my forthcoming birthday bash. I think I shall have to start again, being a little more selective in what tracks I choose. I have over ten hours' of music on the playlist already and have only covered a fraction of the bands I wish to include. I think I might have to limit myself to no more than two tracks per band initially at least. For the record (as it were) I had already decided that with the exception of one version of 'Starless' (artiste yet to be decided), there will be no prog on the playlist, just plain simple rock, pop and blues with a little folk and easy listening tossed into the brew. Excluding 'Starless' no single track will be above five minutes long and the vast majority will come in around the three minute mark, so you need not fear the music selection too much if you like AOR. I don't intend to have any power ballads or other such abominations, either. If I find any that have crept onto the iPod, much less the playlist, they will be deleted.

Hmmm. 3.01am: still not overly sleepy.

...lavender green.

Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] ladkyis for the two small lavender pillows received today as reinforcements in the fight against insomnia!

Gonna get me some kip!

Ovaltine and toast may not be an acceptable substitute for a few hours sleep, but they pass the time when smoothed down with a little jazz on Radio 2!

Monday in the office is going to be extra special.

I do not recommend that you should waste your money on Natrasleep. It most definitely does not do what it says on the box.

I think I finally got to sleep around 4.30 this morning and slept through till 10.30. Breakfast and some chores and the rest of the weekend is mine, hurrah!

I forgot to arrange an appointment with the dentist and now I have toothache.

It's not too bad at the moment and a lovely cocktail of paracetamol and ibuprofen is taking the edge off it. I shall nip out shortly and ensure a good supply for the weekend. Maybe with some codeine, just in case.

On other matters, seeing as I still haven't sorted out the TV reception for the Carpathia I am rather hoping that the Doctor Who finale will be on the torrents pronto this evening. I am anxious to know how it turns out and hopeful that unlike last year, it will not feature Doctor Dobby. We are ordering in a curry tonight; the two will go together nicely.

3.15 am and I'm wide awake. This is [livejournal.com profile] colonel_maxim's territory, not mine.

Typical.

The past week and a bit away from London, both at the coast and in Shropshire, I have slept like a log every night without fail, at the drop of a hat. Tonight, back in London, I'm wide awake.

Catatonia had the right of it:

London never sleeps, it just sucks
The life out of me
And the money from my pocket
London always creeps, showbiz hugs
The life out of me

I don't know why, but last night I just could not get to sleep. I was still awake at 4am, but must, finally, have dozed off shortly after. It was all the odder since I normally have my little bouts of insomnia when I am either mulling something over, or have slept in too long the previous morning - neither case applied last night. I just couldn't doze off.

Ah well.

Great day in the morning.

I should be so lucky. It's nearly 4am and I haven't slept a wink. It will be daylight soon, already the horizon is lightening outside my computer room window.

Tomorrow, or rather this, afternoon I have to take notes of a meeting. Again. The single most boring job in the universe, and I'll be doing it at just the moment my energy levels are at their lowest on account of this bout of insomnia.

The return of the heat is not helping, though they are far from the heat levels that [livejournal.com profile] ysharros has been suffering.

Oh, happy day.
