Rust in Peace

I need a new kettle; my old one has died after nearly twenty years' sterling service. I think part of it is only being held together by the yellow paint on the outside. I strongly suspect that it would be a very poor idea to put more water in and try to boil it.

I am thus reduced to boiling water in a saucepan until tomorrow. Oh well.

In days gone by, an old worn out kettle could have had a second career as a Spitfire part, but alas, no longer. My trusty old water boiler will no doubt end up in whatever landfill Lambeth currently contaminates.

Still, nineteen plus years isn't bad for a modern consumer durable, is it?
