Sarah Jane Adventures.

It seems that my ultimate ambition of never growing up is still on track one month short of my 48th birthday.

Having missed it on New Year's Day, I have just torrented and watched The Sarah Jane Adventures. It is clearly aimed at the 8-14 market and none the worse for that. I may have reservations about "sonic lipstick", but that apart it was a ripping adventure yarn of the style we used to enjoy when I was a kid, but which, as far as I can see, has all but disappeared from modern telly. Some nice little references to the past (photo of the Brigadier, names suggested for the kid being Alistair and Harry, plus the sketch of the TARDIS), without swamping the show. I am also glad that K9 made a brief appearance, but will not be in the main show as, overall, tis a silly beast.

The show appealed to my inner 10 year old very much and Lis Sladen is as lovely as ever.

I will need to rootle about on the interweb, but I recall seeing that some european (Dutch?) [children's] TV company is planning to do a CG K9 series. I'm not sure how they can do this as surely there would be rights issues. If it is true then, perhaps the "shooty dog thing" is allowed out elsewhere.

GENRE: Comedy
Running Time: 26 x 1/2 hr episodes

PREMISE
Somewhere in the future…

An old Prairie class spacecraft is drifting towards distant stars. She is The “ Platte ” once used for the colonisation of Asteroids.

On board are:-
SLOCUM - mid-thirties, rugged, taciturn who thinks of himself as a dealer in valuable commodities - others would say he just collects junk! He is a loner – a space gypsy! It's the only way he knows. He's in no hurry to get anywhere and he stays well off the beaten track.

DJINN - a V997 (F), an overactive computer module in the shape of an attractive young woman. She was programmed by the ship's previous owners to provide stimulating conversation. Something that SLOCUM would happily change if only he had knowledge of her operating codes!

Together they discover an apparently abandoned battle cruiser. Whereupon they meet K-9!

The adventures begin...
