Tedious, really
Sunday, November 21st, 2004 02:15 amWell here we are half way through another weekend, and all I have to show for it is the loss of a whole quid at poker on Friday evening chez
bibliogirl and
rotwang. Not too bad I suppose since I haven't played any variant of poker since nineteen hundred and frozen to death. Which, thinking about it, must be about 1986 when I lost two boxes of matches.
Generally speaking, gambling isn't one of my vices; I'm just too crap at it. But playing the occasional game with a tenner limit isn't too bad. By tenner, I mean in total. Even I can afford to lose that.
Other than a total lack of skill, I am handicapped by the fact that my poker face is essentially the same as my normal face. I lost all my bluffs, and only won a couple of hands by virtue of having a reasonable had, though never anything better than a straight.
All in all, I have too many ways of losing my money to get into gambling., but a total tenner a month with friends I can just about cope with. Especially if I maintain a loss rate of about £1 a time.
Today I barely managed to leave the house to buy ciggies. This sudden cold snap after a prolonged mild period of weather has brought out the hibernation instinct in me, and today never really happened as a consequence. In the great scheme of things it is not really cold, hovering around zero celsius at night, but an unannounced drop of ten degrees means that there's no time to acclimatise, so it just feels colder than it really is.
And being the UK, it is damp too, which makes it even less fun.
You know, I really don't have anything to write about, do I?
