Son of the soil and other endeavours

So as I said in an earlier post, [livejournal.com profile] ellefurtle and I spent most of the early part of our 12 days off work in a combination of decorating the lounge and stair well, which took rather longer than we had hoped and in gardening. The former is now finished, the latter is, of course, an ongoing horticultuarl experience as it were.

Our initial plan with the decorating was to wash the walls and cover them in white undercoat to cover the colours we inheited. It turns out that we quite like the white. We picked up a fair number of paint tester pots over the past few months and we dutifully daubed these in various places before deciding that we didn't really like any of them with the possible exception of the near-white. So we thought 'sod it' and just bought 20 litres of white emulsion and covered the undercoat with a proper layer of paint. We have now hung the new curtains we bought a few weeks ago -they still need a bit of runckling to make them hang nicely, and one set needs to be shortened by a fdew inches, but we are back in business. The next step is to work on the lighting as the main lights tend to make the room look a little stark now it's all white.

For them's as is interested, there are photos handily hidden behind the cut. )

Work continues apace out back, which is looking more and more like a proper garden as spring progresses and the plants already there move out of hibernation and we add new plants to the mix.

Again, there are more pictures to be had for anyone interested behind this cut )

After further honest toil yesterday, we spent a couple of hours in the pub, drinking cider and attacking bacon fries, before returning home for a chinese meal. We rounded off the evening with our lovely neighbours [livejournal.com profile] ingenue_the and [livejournal.com profile] harold_chasen, sitting in their garden by a bonfire, chatting and drinking wine until after midnight. Returning from a Billy Bragg gig, [livejournal.com profile] jfs joined us late on for a half hour or so.

And thus winds down our holiday. Back to the grind tomorrow.
