It's one thing when I have to try to justify the system to people whose councils are nety contributors to the subsidy regime (ie they pay us rather than vice versa), but I find myself at a loss when faced with complaints where we pay them and have increased their allocations above inflation.

I shall be spending the next few minutes suppressing my sarcasm glands before preparing a response.

Just tell them that if they had more money then children would starve.

Then every time they try to say anything but 'OK' yell 'but what about the children?' at them with an ever increasing level of hysteria.

That should keep them off of your back for a while...
