personal spam soap opera

I don’t know who Bill and Joan are, but they seem nice enough and they live somewhere in New Zealand. As far as I am aware, I know nobody in New Zealand, but once a week or so, they email me and comment on something they have read, presumably in an email from someone else who is travelling the world. I get a tantalising half view of what’s going on, but not enough for a clear picture.

I keep wondering whether I should reply to one of their emails and let them know that they have the wrong email address, or that mine has somehow got linked to the address of the person sending reports of their journeys back to New Zealand.

Trouble is, they may be a sophisticated spambot and emailing them might open an electronic Pandora’s Box upon my email account and computer. Hard to say what to do: at the moment I have just given them over to my spam filter, though I must admit that I keep reading them. It’s like getting alternate episodes of a soap opera and it seems that Joan’s health is not all it could be. I hope she’s all right.

Someone’s making a video: presumably this ‘roving reporter’ they are replying to. Maybe they’ll put it up on YouTube…

I see that I have had a couple of hits from New Zealand. I wonder if that's Bill and Joan? If it is, "Hello!" I'm not who you think I am!
