I think that it’s a good idea to suggest to someone that you are interested in their as yet unadvertised vacancy for a job on promotion, should they decide to fill the post.

I suspect that is less sensible to go on to suggest that if the Department is determined to drive me to an early grave by pushing me down the road towards an aneurism they may as well pay me enough to afford a decent casket.
