Well, it took me a while, but I have located the environs (though I do not know the street) of telemeister's Groove Shack on Google Earth and I am gratified to see that Running Springs appears to be distant enough from the fires raging outside Sting et al's house in Malibu and elsewhere on the South Californian coast, to set my mind at ease.

No Californian Fried ex-Pat this week.

That said, I can't tell how far into the depths of Californie the place is; I get no sense of scale from the map based upon satellite photos you can zoom in on...

It's quite wrong to make light of a quite dreadful situation, but is there any truth that these Raging Fires were initiated by all the candles on telemeisters cake?

If you use the co-ordinates from Google Earff on Google Map you will get a scale bar doo-dah.

We evacuated our home yesterday morning, and have been watching the news reports. As of this morning (it's 6:20 a.m. here), the Slide Fire is inside our town, and I do not know whether our house is still standing. It would not be an overstatement to say that I am very frightened. I would post a full entry about it but I am too agitated.

Those of you who are in the habit of praying might want to say a word or two on our behalf.

Am not in the habit but will say anyway. This sounds terrifying. I know folks in the San Diego area who are most certainly joining their prayers to yours.
