Bah. I find myself scheduled to go on a course in about 10 minutes that I should have gone on two years ago, only it didn’t exist then. Today, then, I shall be sitting and paying attention to see if all the ‘fixes’ and intuitive leaps I have used to coax answers from our proprietary application in any way resembles the methodology I should be using.

I live in hope –though I shan’t hold my breath – that I’ll be able just to pick up the mouse like a microphone and just start speaking, ”Computerrr…”.

ETA: Having taken Monday off, I find that I am a day out of synch this week, but bizarrely in the wrong direction. The course is tomorrow, not today. Duh.

It's Scotty ! from Star Trek Iv : The Voyage Home, when Scotty finds the manufacturer of a plexiglass. He gives them the molecular composition of a super light and super strong plexiglass thus breaking the Prime Directive, but justifying it to Urha by saying how do we know this guy didn't invent the stuff...

he sits at a desktop PC to work on the plexiglass/transparent alluminum and addresses the computer ...

[Bones hands him a mouse and he speaks into it]
Scotty: Hello, computer.
Dr. Nichols: Just use the keyboard.

Bugger - of course. Chekov was the "nooclear wessels".

I thought of Scotty doing that too, but could not remember the details. My hat is off to the fellow with the epee stuffed down his trousis.
