The Eleventh Hour
I can say without any doubt that I have been looking forward to the début of the Eleventh Doctor for some time. I have heard good things from my friends in the media of whom I have none.
The first episode did not disappoint in the slightest. For the first time in a while any plot holes didn't jump out and bite and a couple of the scenes reminded me of how scary the show could be for kids. The eyeball on the telly was reminiscent of a scene I recall from when I was very little and telly was stoutly in black and white, on a show called Object Z (which I seem to be the only person to remember). It scared me shitless. The thought of a threat that could only be seen through the corner of the eye is also something that appeals to the kid in me and is very Moffat. I am going to enjoy this season - he has written 6 of the 13 episodes, I believe, with one each by Mark Gatiss, Toby Whithouse and Richard Curtis (the Love Actually bloke).
I was impressed with Matt Smith in his first appearance (though it was not the first filmed) and he looks suitably alien and acts suitably mad. Karen Gillan was pretty good, too (as was Caitlin Blackwood as the 7 year-old Amy Pond).
The only downside for me was the music. The new version has lost most of the thump that the older arrangements had. The new vortex effect was good, though and I still like the new logo.
Yes, I shall enjoy this season.

One continuity thing - how did he get from the cab of the fire engine onto the ladder instantaneously?

I actually loved the music - I like they have changed it quite a bit!

I genuinely didn't think that was possible.
Superb, nuanced, endearing, exciting, charming, childlike wonderful television.
