Olympics Update

The mutton heads who brought us the Lisa Simpson blow-job logo for the London Olympics in 2012, have now revealed the official mascots for the games...

Mandeville and Wenlock. As an ex-pat Salopian, I approve of the name Wenlock.

I haven't yet decided whether or not I like the mascots, though I can see the appeal for kids. Auntie has the story here.

They certainly aren't as bad as the logo: there's still time for them to rethink that, surely. But they won't.

I love 'em! It's so startling original, and fun. Never mind old fogeys like me, children will love them too.

Oh I meant "original" in the Olympics context. So far we've had boring mascots based mainly on (terrestial) animals. I'm disappointed that there are only 2 of them for 2012! (Beijing had 5 I seem to remember).

I quite like them and I very much approve of the names.

So one is predominately blue and the other orangy. Remind you of anything?

Why do they always look like they're going "Heil Hitler?"

They're certainly different, and one looks like a cyclopean bowling pin forced into 'street cred'. I think it's the latter bit that jars - seeing 'high fives' in this sort of context makes me twitch internally - it's the assumption of 'cool' that reminds me of a wannabe hip dad.

Then again, I'm not sure what I'd prefer as an option. If the kids like it...

(I do think it's a bit cruel that someone's lopped off t'other one's feet though)
