Office Life
I know that I have had occasion to mention the lifts in our office before, but they are such a constant source of joy that I find that like a murder returning to the scene of the crime, I am compelled to return to the subject.
For the past few months, the lighting in one of the lifts has been what canm most charitably described as subdued. It has been less lift and more moving grotto for quite some time. And soothing it has been, too. A little piped music and an easy chair and you would be happy to spend the day just going up and down in somnolent raptures.
But today Office Services have finaly fixed the lighting. Today it is like getting into a five by five by eight operating room. There's not a shadow anywhere, and the polished steel-silver trim and mirrored glass reflect and intensify.
No dozing between floors now; the lift would comfortably serve as a Stasi interrogation suite. I am yet to be convinced that over exposure will not lead to a nasty dose of sunburn.
Which is a shame. Not only is it less restful than previously, but it really screws over your night vision which you need to navigate the second floor corridor where the light bulbs have yet to be replaced.
