Death to Tech (and no, the irony isn't lost on me).

Just had a nice online chat with [livejournal.com profile] jimfer and am feeling generally better disposed toward the technical world than I was an hour ago.

In this I am doubtless better off than [livejournal.com profile] pax_draconis. You see, Two and a half days before NWO, his PC has died of a fried C drive and we are desperately hoping that the D drive (a separate entity, happily) is still in the land of the living. It is, apparently too small to install an operating sytem on, so we don't actually know if it's still workable until it can be hooked into another system.

Now the damage is more in the mind than in actuallity, for over 95% of the information on it is held in a variety of locations, but that's the only place it is all together. So the position is salvageable, but the timing stinks - I know that almost makes it sound as though there is a good time for PCs to die, but there's inconvenience and there's inconvenience.

Anyway - I'm off to write another reserve character now, and then muse on how to carry full kit, civvies, two steel gauntlets, washing kit, towel, sleeping bag and a suddenly required laptop up to Euston and catch a train without killing myself.

Such fun.

If you know any prayers to the Gods of Tech, now is the time. Will accept creative curses, too.

Thank you for your attention.

That wimpering?

That's me, that is.

When are you heading oop north? I'll be in London, heading north from Euston on Thurs PM if that's any use in helping you carry stuff?

I'm not sure of the timing just yet, but I aim to be heading north out of Brum before the rush hour, so I guess that means 4.30 out of New Street at the latest....
