The heat, Carruthers, the damned heat

We're supposed to be getting thunderstorms tonight. I hope they arrive, but I'm not holding my breath; they're showing no sign of arrival, though I guess there is still plenty of time.

I must admit that I am somewhat ambivalent about the possibility of a rapid temperature change and a heavy downpour. On the one hand, the constant heat has probably delivered an effect similar to living in a sauna, and that's supposed to be good for you. On the other, the constant sound of my brain frying on the inside of my skull is getting to be an annoyance and is, I am sure, a contributory factor in my failure to get a decent night's sleep. It is, I think, sending me slowly potty. Not that living on the edge of madness doesn't have its little consolations: the view, for example, is terrific.

I am going to have a shower, now. I may return and ramble in a few minutes. It depends on how quickly I cool down.

Here in beautiful Downtown San Bernardino, where I work, I look out onto lovely, cosmopolitan 5th St, and between the derelicts skipping merrily past the office window, I can see CLOUDS. They call it June Gloom. Every morning is cool and overcast, and they burn off later on for a gloriously sunny afternoon and evening. The real humidity is yet to come: 105 in the shade every day into October. Yerghh.

Driving down here from the mountains, one can see the clouds below, spread out like a fluffy eiderdown. It's charming. Excuse me, I'm coming over all A.A.Milne, must go and listen to some Anthrax or somesuch...
