How to over react...

Oh dear. It is very depressing. This will mean little to most of you out there in LJ land, since I doubt that you are much interested in football. Having said that, I am reasonably confident that [livejournal.com profile] keresaspa (particularly), [livejournal.com profile] ephraim and [livejournal.com profile] bladder will each be wetting themselves with mirth at the news that the Wolves have appointed Glenn Hoddle as their new manager.

Glennda is, of course, a comedy appointment, and I am certain that later in the week the real manager will be unveiled. You will recall that Glennda is the ex-England manager who drew a lot of flak for saying that disabled people were paying for sins and errors in previous lives.

I daresay that this bodes ill for disabled access at the Molineux.

Today is the 63rd anniversary of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.

Somehow that seems appropriate.

Misery Line

Tonight is the last quiz night of 2004. It would be nice to finish the year with a win, but who knows? We're not the quiz team we once were, but we are probably better drinkers.

The Northern Line has been a complete pain this past few days, including the end of last week. There is a reduced number of trains, meaning that those that are left are overcrowded for longer. Is it a stock problem, a track problem, a signalling problem?

No. The drivers' radios aren't working properly.

Station staff have been re-deployed to cover the temporary arrangements. Quite what this means, other than station closures such as at Borough which just happens to be the station I would normally use tonight…

Maybe the staff so released are forming an underground chain to pass paper messages to the tube drivers. I'd have thought that just making sure that the signals worked properly would have done, particularly if speeds were reduced marginally.

How did the Tube run in the days before radio? Each train preceded by a man with a flag, I suppose.
