Music

Flicking through the channels on telly tonight I caught the last thirty seconds or so of the Alan Carr show; literally about that much.

There was a band called La Roux performing and in the limited time I had, they sounded quite interesting in an electro-pop sort of way. Any opinions, my multitude of minions?

Florence & The MAchine

It took me a while to work it out, but I think it goes like this: You get Sally Oldfield to channel Toyah in songs arranged by Kate Bush. Visuals suggested by Tori Amos as adapted by Godly & Creme.

Phew

A combination of luck, tenacity and bad weather have helped England to an unexpected and underserved draw in the first Ashes test in Cardiff.

This is going to be a loooong series and someone somewhere has got to remind England how to play cricket to win again. Next up, I think, is Lords. May as well be Melbourne for the chances of England winning there.

I might have to pretend that the series is over or risk my blood pressure going through the roof.

Sunday roundup

Well we didn't manage to get quite as much done today as we intended. Actually, apart from cleaning the bathroom (Furtle, to be fair) and shopping, nothing got done, really. Though I did mend the drawer in the kitchen where we keep the pots and pans.

We managed to have a couple of pints in The Griffin while we were contemplating doing something, wandered down to Waitrose to finish the shopping and bumped into [livejournal.com profile] budgie_uk, outside Costa Coffee where he was finishing a cup and writing on his laptop. We finished the shopping and then lured Budgie away from his coffee with er... coffee.

This evening we watched Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid on DVD, which I'd picked up for a fiver in HMV yesterday. Furtle had never seen it and said, immortally, about half an hour into the movie "is there anyone famous in this?" Er... Robert Redford and Paul Newman?

"Well I've only seen them as old men!"

Bless.

She also kept asking in that 'don't you dare tell me' way, "are they going to die at the end of the movie?" so I replied, "I couldn't possibly comment" in my best 'of course they bloody well are' way.

It's a great movie, but I'd forgotten how slow the start is, it being around 25 years since I watched it last. Or maybe we are just less tolerant of the 'slow burn' in movies, 40 years on?
