caddyman: (Christmas)

Duh

Personally I don't think I could care less, but there are those who do, and possibly some of them read this journal o'mine.

So what precisely was going through the heads of the people who sanctioned this Christmas campaign in New Zealand? Did it not occur to them that someone, somewhere might take it a little bit amiss? It's not a difficult thing to realise is it?

A dejected-looking Joseph lies in bed next to Mary under the caption, "Poor Joseph. God was a hard act to follow". St Matthew-in-the-City Church in Auckland, which erected the billboard, said it had intended to provoke debate.

Well it is pretty poor taste.

And I tend to feel that it's sad when any one group has a pop at another. It's one thing to poke gentle humour at a group it's another to be deliberately crude, or even mildly offensive intentionally.

But I wouldn't strap half a dozen blocks of plastic to a vest and go all Fatwa-pixie over it.

It was actually put up by a church.

Sorry I meant to say that fact that it had been done by a Christian Church filled me with befuddlement.

I was going to count the ways this was just filled with wrong, but I was rather gratefully distracted by a co-worker by the time I'd reached nine.

Well, okay, it is, but it's also a touch insensitive!

more than a touch, i'd say. it's not very nice at all, really.
