Oh look, problems with ntl. Quel Surprise.
I think the idiot pills are kicking in big time.
I have been trying to contact ntl to arrange either a cancellation of service, or a transfer to the new address. This is easier said than done. I have aged a number of years whilst waiting while their automated phone system plays the most appalling drivel at me, pausing now and again to apologise for the delay. After a while, a further automated voice pops up posing a number of alternative actions, one of which involves phoning their direct line, which is suspiciously similar1 to that I have been dialling.
The only reason I'm trying it is because I would quite like to keep access to cable TV, and have a broadband internet connection.
The wish to maintain any kind of business relationship with ntl is slowly fading with each attempt to contact them, however, and I may well revisit my entertainment requirements accordingly.
Life is too short.

Write to them.
Tell they you've stopped paying them money and, if they want your custom, to give you a contact for a real person.
Anyone and his wife does broadband.
Which channels do you like, £50 quid freeview may suffice?
(* - I just rang the HSBC BIB helpline. I spoke immediately to a person who knew exactly what was needed, and am being sorted out.)

I could rely on DT to organise something, but he makes me look like a technical wizard, and I only have another 40 or so years to live, so I need to get cracking on it.

It looks as though you're right about the telly. I might just grit me teeth and go freeview. Once I have operational broadband, I can get most of the telly I want off the web anyway.
