Ah, Dear Reader. I am back.
And why was the line dead? Did the bad weather sever a cable? Were thye forces of entropy too much for the feeble devices of man? Did Bryan forget to pay his phone bill?
No. None of the above.
It seems that at 2pm on Wednesday last, unbeknownst to Yours Truly, the cream of Chateau Bromfelde's Polish Brigade all decided that it would be the greatest of japes top have their own phone lines installed, rather than rely on their mobiles or indeed the landlady's payphone downstairs. That's reasonable. Neither is a financially sound way of contacting the Warsaw resistance from London.
However, instead of getting BT to do the work for them - had they mentioned it, I could have advised - they fell into the same trap as your correspondent. They contacted nt-Hell.
Result? Three new phone lines installed and one disconnected.
Guess whose was the latter?
Anyway, not only is it all hunky dory now, but three sets of engineers have turned up at quarter hour intervals to do the same work.
I was annoyed, but now I just think it's funny. For the 36 hours my phone line was dead, I have recouped the money in the cost of wasted journeys for 6 ntl employees.
Money well spent, I feel.
