A nice day off

Dragged my sorry arse out of bed just before midday. It was glorious: I really needed the sleep. Mind you, getting to bed at 3.30am after watching Downfall on DVD probably contributed to that.

Early afternoon, decided after seven months in the Athenaeum Club that I ought to register with a local quack. Beastie and I trogged down towards Finchley, it being nice enough walking weather, only to find that the buggers require proof of address. So I have to go back tomorrow to register. The irony is not lost on this opponent of ID cards.

Thereafter, wandered down to North Finchley; failed to obtain a Japanese calligraphy brush, but did catch the bus to central Finchley and bought a couple of games in readiness for the forthcoming GASP weekend.

Gad, what a life I lead. I need a lie down now until the adrenaline subsides...

Calligraphy brush?

My wife and I were in a crafts shop on Sunday, buying Karly a couple of items for a school project, and I wandered over to the paint section. No gouache. No poster paint either. Many tubes of oil and acrylic, "how to" books, many different brushes, lots of paper and pads of different sizes. It all made me want to get back into painting again after years off, drawing stupid comics, but I always was a mediocre painter. More of a pen-&-ink or wax crayon (I kid you not) man.

Deliciously inspiring, though.

Yes indeedy. The Japanese write (or wrote) with brushes. They are very good for inking over pencils, too. You get nice gradation between thin and thick lines, à la comic book stylee.

Yes, I thought that's what you referred to. I like a good, bold line, (black Rollerball pen), very influenced by the Bros Hernandez in their "Love & Rockets" comics. If I used a brush, I'd be all over the place, and I'm quite sloppy enough.
