Peking* Olympics

A quick read of the BBC News and Sports websites suggests to me that if Russia fail to pull their forces out of Georgia as they have promised, but so far failed to do, there is a case for bumping them from 6th to 4th in the Olympic medals table. Rankings are decided by the numbers of gold a country's team has won rather than the country's overall haul. At the time of typing, the places are:

1 China 43
2 USA 25
3 Great Britain 16
4 Australia 11
5 Germany 11
6 Russia 10

26 Georgia 2

Olympic excellence through territorial acquisition.

*Use of Peking rather than Beijing in LJs passim

Quick, check all the documents, maybe the founding fathers didn't sign all the proper forms and we can claim US medals on technicality.

I still like the argument that the US actually have 17 medals and that Phelpsiana currently sits 9th in the table, behind Japan (who also have some silver and bronze) but ahead of Italy with only 6 golds.
