Family birthdays

What to do? What to do?

Tomorrow is my little sister's birthday. Strictly, that should be younger sister but quite honestly even if I live to be a hundred, she will always be my little sister.

She is a mother of three now, the kids' ages ranging from nearly 6 to 16 years old. But she is also the little bugger who used to hand on to by arm by dint of sinking her fingernails as far into my flesh as humanly possible. That was a habit that lasted between the ages of about four to eight years of age, and had me close to murder on a number of occasions.

But while that was many, many moons ago, she remains, as ever, my little sister (anyway, she's only 5'3" compared to my nearly 6', so she is little).

So what do I buy her for her birthday? She won't get it until Friday when I go back up to Shropshire, so I still have a little time to think it over. She mentioned something called a 'Cherish Teddy' but I have no idea what that is*.

Maybe I should just write her a cheque....

* and yes, I have googled it, but although the phrase does appear, none of the websites will open within my patience span, so I'm not actually any the wiser.

Aren't they those scary little china yellow bears to be found in a variety of costumes? I remember looking at the rude ones in Newquay. I liked the one in a mac flashing best and the one drinking bleach who had gone all white from the head down. I understand you can get sensible ones too for the more gentle soul.

Ah. Could be. The sensible ones anyway.

Oddly enough, me silver haired old Ma likes the bad taste teddies and has a flasher and a sheep-shagger.

They make her laugh.

Of dear.

I'd say buy her a professional massage or a spa visit, but perhaps my preconceived notion of what it would be like to have 3 kids, 6 to 16, is weighing too heavily here.

mmmm, that's a good idea - time to herself for a facial! So long as she could name the date.

I generally take my sister out and get her liquored up for her birthday. Saves a lot of disappointment rather than the usual efforts where any gift a man buys for a woman always ends up offending her in some way. Bloody sorts!

Sadly not an option. She has arranged a party on Saturday so will probably do a fair job of getting soused without my help...
