Two fingers of red eye please, Barman

Well, after just over an hour of lying in bed, switching from trying to sleep on my side, then on my back and then on my side again, I have given up and decided to come back to the keyboard and mooch around the intarwebs and drink a cup of tea.

Yes, despite the dog-tiredness and the yawns that bring streaming tears, guess who is wide awake and unable to sleep?

I really envy Furtle her marvelous ability to rustle up a sleep pretty much on demand. The second she feels even slightly tired, she can call up a deep sleep within minutes. Sometimes in fact, I almost think she is asleep before her head hits the pillow. Once upon a time I could do that, too. These days I retain the ability during the day, but at night it is not always quite so easy. Most of the time I am away with the fairies within about a quarter of an hour, but if it goes many minutes beyond that, I know that I might as well give up until I start getting that trail effect when you move your eyes around and even that is no real guarantee.

Some time in the next half hour or so, I expect that Sunday night's US TV will start hitting the torrents, so I shall at least (I hope) be able to download House, or some such entertainment for Bank Holiday Monday. In the meantime, I shall continue mooching around the internet.

Teenagers have been medically proven to need more sleep than older people. Another thing that has been medically proven - there are statistics too - is that reading reduces stress. Because you use so much of your brain when reading it reduces the amount of brain left for worrying thereby relaxing you. SO get out a book and get comfortable and practise reading yourself to sleep - oh and stop worrying about not sleeping co sthat can keep you awake at night.
Make your going to be ritual a proper ritual. Have a warm drink don't watch lots of exciting things on TV just before bedtime and try going just that bit earlier.
Allow a week or so to get into the habit of going to bed and sleeping.
Don't drink ordinary tea because it does have caffiene so go for a fruit one that soothes or cammomile that is said to relax a person. Me? I have the "if I am horizontal I must be asleep" gene like Furtle but Mr M has used all my ideas at different times when he goes through a sleepless phase.
OH and it is all to do with weight according to some experts

I envy people who can do that too.
