Never let it be said that once I make a start, I manage less than at least two goes at something before giving up.

Actually, apart from the need to work out in my mind precisely what I'm after, I really, really need to practice the drawing of the pictures. If I can't get it right with a pencil, I'm never going to manage to blow the picture up into pastel and glorious colour!



Anyway. Here's last evening's attempt; the second of the project. The eyes are too big and the expression is not severe enough. Also, she's not looking at the viewer...

Still, it's getting there. It's the practice I need the most. I sued to be rather better than this, but the rust needs to be chipped away.

Richard and I were discussing recently how we could juggle a local life drawing class with Henry. If we can figure out babysitting somehow, do join us. There is a very relaxed class in Leytonstone on Thursday nights, although I'm so rusty I could do with a good deal more teacher intervention to get my skills back up, so perhaps looking for a different class would be good.

Also, you should be warned that Richard is sickeningly good - despite not having drawn for ages, as I suspect (from your lovely drawing above), are you. This is most vexing, but perhaps my competitive nature will help me remember how to hold the pencil again.

Had you considered having the finished lady not *quite* looking at the viewer?
