Bouncy Castle

Ah, just in to the office a bit late having stopped off at the quack's for the regular bimonthly tyre change and windscreen wash.

For the 12th week in a row the old Beep* is operating within normal parameters, Captain. At 139/87 it is on the high side of normal, but still normal. And given that the weather outside is hotter than Kylie's bum, it is probably higher than it would otherwise be; apparently hot weather contributes to hypertension. Presumably it's all those little corpuscles trying to get to the surface to acquire a suntan.

Now that he's happy that we are making progress on that front, he has decided that we should tackle the smoking. Although at the moment that seems to consist of me going away to think about it for a month (presumably not over a cigarette or two), before seeing him again.

Of course, I have tried giving up smoking before. When I try that, I normally go into seclusion for a few days, and my evil twin brother covers my day-to-day routine.

Congratulations! You are doing much better than me with the old beep :) WELL DONE! Do you take any thing for it? ( and don't say a fiver and it's yours)I'm asking because I was given Amplodomine last week but I have taken myself off it as it did not feel good in my chest not one bit and so I am sticking with my trusty Atenolol. 139/87 is fantastic; I wish I could get mine down. How are you doing it?

Sorry, if I'm being nosey just bleep me out!

Hoo boy. Now you're asking.

In the a.m. I have Adizem, a calcium antagonist (should be a punk band), aspirin (boring), bendrofluorozine water tablets (to make me pee like a cart horse, I thankyew), and Ramipril, an ACE inhibitor.

Who needs brekky?

In then evening, by way of supper, I take a single Stattin tablet to do things to cholestersol (which is low anyway, but that didn't stop him prescribing it).

This little chemical medley is what does the trick, it seems.

(Betcha wish you'd never asked! ;-) )

I AM glad I asked. I have been prescribed similar family and combination of tablets ( minus the ACE Inhibitor and water tablets) not the same names but that do the same thing. I need to talk to my doctor about them but it is useful to know that someone else I know takes them and they work! Thank you and the punk band name really made me smile and put my worries regarding these things and what they are for into a more relaxed perspective.

Quitting smoking is a pain in the arse. I tried it once and didn't like it as I turned into a hyper snappy git.

It is all entirely an excuse for garlic and red wine, isn't it?

On a serious level, I have a book which outlines what foods are good for various ailments, and I know that blood pressure is one of those things that it discusses. Do you want me to look at it for you?

[identity profile] caddyman.livejournal.com 2004-07-29 01:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah, red wine and garlic....

It wouldn't hurt to look if you wouldn't mind... ;-)

The book reckons:

Good to eat: spinach, herring, mackerel, tuna, oysters, rye, cauliflower, sesame seeds, peppers, celery, grapefruit, cucumber, beans, strawberries.

Bad to eat: salt, dairy, tea, coffee, cola, animal fats.

Oh, Dear God.

I can cut down on the salt. I shall have to increase my intake of the good stuff to counteract the fact that I cannot give up the bad stuff...

Great news about the blood pressure. I'm the last person anyone should look to for advice about quitting smoking, but last time I saw my doc she told me about this new drug they have that was developed as an anti-depressant but turned out to decrease the desire to smoke, so maybe you could ask about that if your doc doesn't mention it.

I am a bit dubious about anti-depressents, but I'll see how things develop.... :-)

This worked for Steve Eason, who used to smoke 40 a day...

These are fine cure smoking aids if ever they did exist....

Just a present from Ireland, heh.
