Was he the one who was in...?

Interesting when a BIG STAR dies isn’t it?

When [livejournal.com profile] colonel_maxim yelled down the stairs of the Athenaeum Club last night that Heath Ledger had medicated himself to death, I was appropriately sad. Not yet 30 and dead; a waste. I then thought, “He’s the bloke who plays the Joker in the new Batman film”. Then I thought, “Other than that, I have no idea why he’s a star. What’s he been in?”

It turns out that I have actually seen a film of his: he is the one who was not Matt Damon in the bits of Brothers Grimm I didn’t sleep through – though I wasn’t sure if he was from the same clone vats as Josh Hartnett; it’s hard to keep up with the Hollywood look-alikes.

Furtle has a copy of A Knight’s Tale, which I can’t remember ever watching, though I probably shall at some point. I see he was in The Patriot, which I refuse to watch as I do anything involving Mel Gibson’s anti British propaganda movie campaign career1.

So there we are. An entire career been and gone and the only bit that interests me hasn’t been released yet.

1Chicken Run and, if I am in the mood, possibly the first couple of Lethal Weapon movies, excepted

Life on Mars...

Amongst other sources, The Times has reproduced a blow-up from a NASA photograph taken in 2004 on Mars.

The photograph shows what NASA are calling a rock and a "trick of the light" and what conspiracy-lovers and the generally over excitable are calling definitive proof of life on Mars.

Photographic evidence behind the cut (work friendly) )Of course, there's no need for debate. We have proof positive of life on Mars. Just ask Marvin:

Jobs

I have just submitted an application for a job on promotion, which I have high hopes for. If it was any closer fit to my skills and experience it would be called Bryan.

This from a man who managed to lose out on an in-post promotion a couple of years ago to someone else in the branch: wish me luck.

Onwards and upwards!
