Question of the day

A couple or three months ago, the EU in its wisdom made it illegal to sell, or import 100W light bulbs in EU member states.

Now I could rant about this on any number of levels, but I'm not going to and I shall ignore any comments that explain in tedious detail why high-handed Führer Directives from an unelected and undemocratic body are a good thing.

My question for today is rather more prosaic: Given that the legal replacements are shit and potentially harmful to health, why has not some enterprising manufacturer not introduced a 99W bulb, or if there is a small margin of error in the measurement of wattage, a 95W bulb?

I expect they are too busy trying to make wind, tide and solar power defy the laws of physics in an attempt to make them economically and practically viable.

Tidy up

I have just spent an inordinately large chunk of the afternoon sorting out papers so that I can actually fit stuff into the stupid little knitting bag things (LJs passim) we’ve had to carry our bits and pieces around in since we were “SpaceFlexed”.

It’s done now and it’s quite cathartic. In the spirit of tidying up, I see that someone has dropped me from their friends’ list unannounced. Well, there’s nothing like a little tidying up there, too, tit-for-tat style. If I’m not interesting or friendly enough for he, he not interesting enough for me, neither. So nyah.

Acting like a five year old can be cathartic, too.

Two Polar Bears, Four Seals.

It goes somewhat against the grain to suggest anybody read the Daily Mail but I have just had this article emailed to me.

Being the Mail, I have to confess that I am sceptical about the accuracy, but we all like stupid answers to exam questions, and I don’t recall ever seeing these before, so they are at least, probably not recycled.

It’s hard to say which one I like the most, but the mental picture of big dames floating down the Mississippi as a flood relief measure makes me smile.
