It goes somewhat against the grain to suggest anybody read the Daily Mail but I have just had this article emailed to me.

Being the Mail, I have to confess that I am sceptical about the accuracy, but we all like stupid answers to exam questions, and I don’t recall ever seeing these before, so they are at least, probably not recycled.

It’s hard to say which one I like the most, but the mental picture of big dames floating down the Mississippi as a flood relief measure makes me smile.

I've reposted this several times over the years, so I'll just point you to the most recent time, January 2008: History Of The World until 1914 (compiled from student howlers)

Ah yes, I love that - it's done the email circuit a few times and never fails to please!

The current lot are fun, too and to my eyes at least just an addition to an endless thread of potential humour!

Funny, but I don't actually believe they're genuine - I'm not sure how he'd have accessed the exam papers to scour them, and teachers don't actually see the exam papers the students have written.

I recognise some of the gags from copies of the Beano, I'm pretty sure.

Still made me chuckle though.

Yeah, the gags are old ones.
The mail is just making up stories now again

Hadn't occurred to me; but it does reinforce caveat bout the Mail!

the 2(x+y) one's been around a few years and I use a variant of it as a starter joke when I teach binomial expansions.

I like the answer about Steve and his car though. I think it's much more sensible than the original stupid question.
