Techie acquisitions

Fantastic.

Twenty quid has just bought me a wireless mouse and keyboard, which together make the lappie so much more accessible for everyday use. I think that once I get the PC up and running again, I shall transfer these to that - the old keyboard is rather smeggy after all the years' use it's given me and the tracker ball needs cleaning every ten minutes or so.

A full keyboard is far, far more comfortable for typing than the keyboard on the lappie itself, which of course, is designed for travel.

This keyboard has a whole wad of extra buttons too, both for media applications and for web browsing. I wonder if these are available on most new keyboards and I have just been missing out, using the ancient gunge-covered thing on my desk?

One thing hasn't changed, though. My typing is still rubbish.

Wireless

Ah, the joys of leeching off someone else's broadband with wireless...

I am in Marlow this weekend, in sunny Surrey and I have brought the laptop with the express purpose of setting up the wireless connection somewhere where I know there is a wireless connection. So far so good, but whoever's wireless I am using, it ain't mine host's. I didn't have time to find out the password and other settings before I was up and running on this connection. So, anonymous benefactor, I thank you and promise not to use all your bandwidth. I shall be a good boy and avoid graphics heavy sites (mostly) and streaming video (mostly) and anything even remotely dodgy (mostly) and certainly I shall not hit the bit torrents (mostly).

Feel my virtue.

I bet I shan't be able to connect tomorrow...

IT Question

Chaps,

There's a whole bunch of you out there who know these things, so I'd appreciate input.

What do I need to buy for my Laptop so that I can use wireless internet while I'm out and about? At home I don't have a wireless router or such, but I do have a very long cable down to the normal router, so intarweb access isn't a problem there.

Any idea of costs and such I should be looking out for?

Thanks.
