Hello, Dear Friend.

Come in, sit down.

I have to tell you, if you're interested - and I can tell that you are - that on Sunday last, whilst shopping in Ilford, we picked up a copy of Tom Jones's new album, Praise and Blame. I know, remarkable, isn't it?

Sir Tom has always had a marvellous voice and it shows no signs of diminishing now he's hit 70, but frankly, in his younger days, some of his material was well... You know. I mean, "What's New Pussycat?" what's that all about? Nonetheless, the old boy carved a niche for himself and kept going. In 1999 he suddenly discovered or maybe reiscovered a large degree of credibility when he released Reload, in which he duetted with many of the top contemporary acts of the late 1990s.

Anyway, Praise & Blame is excellent and thoroughly recommended. Somewhere between the Blues, Country and with a dash of Gospel smattered over for good measure. You should hear his cover of Hooker's Burning Hell. Oh yes.

Would be Hooker of the John Lee variety?

Ooh, that sounds rather my sort of thing. I'll have to keep an eye out for that.

*yay* another Tom Jones fan! I have long been laughed at for my love of the mans voice (and him if I'm honest! For an older man he has more *swoon* appeal than Mr Connery! - but I digress!)
It always amuses me that people take the micky for me liking him but whenever I put him on at work, they all know the words and start tapping feet! Hehe!

"What good am I" (Bob Dylan) is already on my 5* play list as a beautiful example of an understated but passionated "power" voice. Simply magnificent!

He tells a story of how an account executive at has record company sent around a memo pleading with them to pull this - the company apologised by sending him some whisky - really good whisky,
