Well, that’s annoying.

The pint of milk I bought this morning leaks. This didn’t become apparent until after I’d broken the seal, of course. I made my coffee, poured in the milk and started sorting out my papers. There were a couple of blobs of milk on the desk, so I just assumed I’d spilt it.

Wipe that up and carry on.

Then I find some more – smeared a bit, so naturally I assumed that I’d caught something in the spill and spread it. I am clumsy enough, after all. Again, wipe it up and carry on.

Then I realise that there is a lake of milk on the other side of my desk, with the plastic bottle in the middle. That’s now mopped up and the offending bottle is sitting on a slowly sogging pile of old newspapers. I have nothing else to put the milk in and I am loath to pour it down the drain and buy more.

If the cleaning around here is as efficient as I think it is, there will be a suspicious smell of cheddar in the vicinity by Monday morning, even though the stack of milk-infused newspapers will be gone this evening.

In other news: for the fourth morning running, the pavement cleaners outside the office in Cardinal Place are driving up and down with one of those big polish/sweep machines that puts out a sound of a frequency that vibrates and resonates just on the edge of your consciousness and which reduces the already decreasing comfort of the building.
