I have to confess that having heard a song by her on Radio 2 the other morning, I wandered off and researched a bit into the background and career of Dionne Bromfield, about whom I had previously not consciously heard one jot.

I was intrigued by her voice, which I thought reminiscent of the late Amy Winehouse and blow me down if I don't find that she is in fact, Winehouse's God Daughter and protégée and only 15 years old to boot. I have to say that she has an excellent voice and that provided she can be a bit more careful with her material (allowing for the fact that I am no real fan of modern "R&B" or Hip Hop) and stays more to the Jazz/Soul/Reggae sides of her repertoire, she should have a long and successful career ahead of her. My pompous side has to add that is she concentrates on the R&B/Hip Hop side, she will undoubtedly have a short but successful career.

Mainly, though, I hope she, or someone with her best interests at heart, can surround her with people who will steer her away from the path taken my her mentor. Not so much career wise, because that will have to develop along the lines she's comfortable with (he said naively), but certainly in her private life: the greatest lesson Winehouse could bequeath her is to stay clear of the drugs and alcohol and to fulfill her promise in the way that Winehouse was sadly unable to do.

Oh. And stop doing covers of such trite stuff as My Boy Lollipop. It wasn't good 50 years ago and it's aged badly.
