As my only regular and avid reader, you will recall that some months ago I had a 1975 flashback when the morning conspired in an improbable manner to send coincidence after coincidence my way from flared jeans to afghan coats and T Rex on the radio. There was more, but you'll have to search the archive for it if you're that interested.

Well today, just for a moment, I thought the world was going to throw me a 1964 flashback.

Firstly there was Gerry and the Pacemakers on the radio this morning (nothing too unusual about that) and then, alighting at Victoria, I walk out, light up a ciggie (just a ciggie) and look up. Standing there looking as though they'd just walked off a Mary Quant advert from 1964 are two girls identically dressed in black and white panel mini-dresses complete with matching plastic caps. Think Twiggy and you'll know what I mean.

Of course, a shudder ran down my spine. Other than nicotine and caffeine I have eschewed all chemical stimulants this weekend so I suspect that they really were there.

There has been no further incident of time leakage in the area, so I suspect we are safe. Having said that, I notice that Barratts' shoe shop on Victoria Street are stocking Chelsea boots for the Winter.

So who knows?

I think its more the early 80's late 70's vibe with the fashion thing atm. Fingers crossed for 'Victorian chic' to make it back but I doubt any dodgy clothes manufaturers have left over stock from that era. Black and white only good together ifn you are a penguin, a zebra or a waiter.
What are chelsea boots btw?

Chelsea Boots are those (mainly men's, but women's too) slip-on ankle boots. slightly elasticated above the ankle and with pointed toes (not too pointed).

They may or may not have a slight Cuban heel according to taste.

Chelsea Boot

If you look at pictures of the Beatles circa 1963-64 they are almnost invariably wearing Chelsea Boots.

Bryan

I'll ask now, because I know someone is bound to.

What's a Cuban Heel?

(From someone else who remembers the 60s).

You're joshing me, right?

A Cuban Heel is a wedge-shaped cut-away heel, like on cowboy boots.

Remebering the 60s - no, I'm not joshing about that. Had I arrived on time, I would have been a child of the 50s.

Asking about Cuban heels - of course I am :-)

As possibly the only person on here who reads womens magazines, I am sorry to have to inform you that 60s - especially that Mary Quant black and white thing - is back. Even the bits you prayed they'd've learnt from. I advise not going anywhere near New Look to help prevent recurring flashbacks.

On the plus side, Alexander McQueen's spring collection featured lots of black lace and chiffon this year, so in about 18 months there should be some gothy stuff in fashion.

Indeed they are.

I'm thinking about the possibility of a purchase in that direction since 10 years of cowboy boots did nowt for my tootsies...
