Mario has returned from his Saharan jaunt looking less tanned than I would have expected though his bottom lip betrays a lack of sun block over the five days. He is also distressingly fresh - I, on the other hand, am completely shagged out just thinking about it.

Mario's time was 57 hours, 18 mins 25 seconds and he finished 511th out of 553 finishers. He didn't better his time from 1999 and is rather disappointed. Quite why, I'm not sure, although I share his amazement that some of the people in his age group came in amongst the first runners.

Apparently he has some photos in for developing, and I hope I can get some up onto my webpage just so you can get a feel of what this event is like.

Thanks to everyone who sponsored Mario - the bailiffs will be around shortly.

I wish I had the stamina to run a marathon.

I think the best way is just to email him and ask - the email is at the end of this link.

As to how much, I guess that depends on you, but bear in mind he ran 240 kilometers or so in 5 days! For what it's worth, cash strapped me went in for £15.

And not just any old marathon, either. Forget your 26 miles, this was 240km over 5 days across the Sahara desert!
