caddymanTonight I am off to see Spider-Man 2 at the Clapham Picturehouse. I wasn't sure if I really wanted to go tonight - not on account of the movie which I do want to see, but because it is so bloody hot.
I mean the cinema is air-conditioned and all, so that's not too bad, but after the small amount of sleep I got last night (staring at the clock at 3.30am thinking that it ought to be possible to doze off before dawn), I am concerned that I might sleep through the movie. Especially as it should be nice and cool in there.
Another week or so of this and I fully expect to see the cars in central London disappear to be replaced by caravans of camels walking patiently up the Mall and round Hyde Park Corner, City Bedouin Gentlemen in long robes, but with a bowler hat perched on top, and a brolly to ward off the sun and sand. Already we are partly there. The wind picks up the dust and sends clouds of it racing down the streets or into spirals which never quite become twisters.
A decent bit of wind erosion followed by duning wouldn't half improve the architecture around here.
Still, the weather is good for the cricket which we cannot lose for once, although we could draw the series.
