I think the Joss Whedon comment is true, much to my disgust. A whole new generation are being weened on Buffy crap as opposed to good stuff like Who and Star Wars :(
I tried Serenity and failed dismally - I can see why ppl enjoy it but it's not for me. It's way too post modern and removed from real discourses - watching Whedon texts is akin to (at least for me) subsisting on a diet of Candyfloss and sticking your tongue up your friend's anus. It's just all to inscestuous and post "Friends" insincerity. I cannot warm to it and never will.
Whedon, for me, represents all that is wrong in modern society.
No matter how much people say watch this episode or that episode - it all comes across as whimisical and false.
My wife has been trying to get me to watch Buffy and Firefly for many years - she hasn't suceeded yet.
I am a lost cause - stick me on the barbeque now ;)
Good point - we all have our crosses to bear. Am sure if you look through my list of interersts on LJ there would be enough to relegate me to "fandom" hell!
