Le Weekend

This is aimed primarily (well, solely) at the Ilford Massive, though if anyone else knows the answer, tell, pray do.

With the exception of the Mozart at the Royal Festival Hall on Sunday, my weekend is a mess of places to be at various times of random duration. For that reason, I haven't felt able to take advantage of [livejournal.com profile] westernind's offer of Chinese in Ilford, and such. That said, since I have contact details for members of the massive, if the situation changes, I might try and avail myself of a trip to the eastern steppes of London.

Now this begs the question from one new to lands north of the river, "how does one get between Ilford and Whetstone by public transport without disappearing into the centre?".

Answers on a postcard please, to the comments box below.

Thanks ever so...

Additional: Cripes! this North London malarkey is far more complicated than I thought. In the much maligned Sarf, there's busses ever'where, whether you want them or not!

Simple answer. You don't.

Complicated answer involves buses via Walthamstow and other places that are only slightly real.

But the easiest route is in to the centre and out again.

'swhy we drive to the Thursday game.

Just checked: if you don't want to go into the centre the route is like this:

Walk into Ilford centre (approx 10 minutes)

Take the 123 (Wood Green) to Walthamstow (approx 25 minutes)

From Walthamstow, take the 34 (Barnet Church) to Arnos Grove (approx 24 minutes)

From Arnos Grove, take the 251 to Edgware, stopping at Totteridge and Whetstone (approx 8 minutes.)

Add in faff time waiting for the buses at each location and you're talking 2 hours, easily.

Makes it about 1 hour 20 to 1 hour 30, allowing for 10 mins walk either end.

On the buses...

T&W; Northern Line to Moorgate; walk round to Liverpool Street; get a train to Ilford; exit Ilford station; cross over the road and get a 145, 128 or 150 bus to Green Lane (ask the driver for the Green Lane/Prince of Wales stop). Once off the bus, follow the direction of the bus for about 100 yards; when you pass the prince of wales pub, #67 is 2 doors away.

*nods* substantially easier than getting the bus. However, the last tube from Moorgate is going to be about 00:30 on a Saturday night / sunday morning, so it would involve leaving Ilford about 11.30 to be certain.

Bry - if you can put me up Saturday night and you can wait for me to wend my way back to Ilford after Theatre of Blood, I can drive you back to Whetstone. I'm probably not going to drink Saturday anyhoo, so I might as well take advantage of the car.

Plus, everything that's being described here is an utter horror story of public transport.

I dare say we can find room for you on Saturday night. As I said above, I'm not clear as yet whether I'll be able to go over to Ilford anyway, but I must admit that the potential was receding rapidly as I variously read John, Matt and Simon's directions.

This is the first time in 21 years in the Smoke, that I've felt left out not having a car.

Keep me posted. It's all a bit fluid everywhere at the mo. I have decided that I shall go with the flow, and make commitments only where absolutely necessary, spending the rest of the weekend bobbing like a cork afloat on a sea of good fellowship and youthful high spirits.

Well, me going to Ilford is not a prerequisite for you crashing over here, tho if I don't go, we may have to liaise over timing and stuff.
