Well, that's that.

Rooney is petulant, Rooney is sent off. Played better with 10 men than 11.

Penalty shootout? Inevitable result.

Come on, Brazil.

While I am talking footie, I see that Glen Hoddle has quit at the Wolves. Wonder why?

Edited to add: My footballing Kiss of Death continues. In addition to Spain who I had thought would be my reserve team in the event of England crashing out, I have now jinxed Brazil. I now have to think which of the remaining four to lend my support to, knowing that it will ultimately proven fatal to their chances...

Isn't it ironic that the most talked about player - the one who was going to win England the world cup - is now, arguably, the one to have lost it for them? Always a risk - Rooney - with his impatience and bad temper. He stormed two of the Ecuadorian players down in their penalty box last week, like a bull charging. He's way too aggressive for a football player!

And I'll back whichever of Italy and Germany get to the final now - sticking with the nationalities of the guys I work with.

".... Glen Hoddle has quit at the Wolves. Wonder why?" Someone suggested, "Because God told him" (I don't really know the full background to that assertion though.)

That is frighteningly possible with Glennda.

I agree, though he has calmed down a lot.

I bet the celebrations were loud and enthusiastic up your neck of the woods when England went out?

Sure would have been - 'cept I'm at my parents' place now, recovering from overstress with the PhD and avoiding manic office decoration and window replacement at work. My supervisor's away, there's no teaching that I need to do and here it's peaceful and I can work in my own way ....

Assuming you can maintain the "kiss of death" curse, how about Portugal? ;o)

This is something of an awkward one. If you support France, they might go out. Yet what Englishman could ever bring himself to support France?

He probably thinks he has a mission to save the universe on a distant planet or something. Either that or he just woke up and realised what a fool he is and decided he could never show his face again. The Wolves are more than welcome to Bryan Robson if you need a manager, of course.
