It doesn't take much to turn a body into a U Boat commander. Just a hat and a collared black pique, really. Just as well as it's the wrong time of year and far too hot for the leather submariner's jacket.

Obviously we are in need of another freeform - and soon! I have been feeling the itch to create another murder mystery, perhaps I'll put pen to paper... now how do I fit in a shropshire lad that likes dressing up?

Bravo,

I'm guessing this is before heading out on the mission - you don't have that ungroomed, unventilated look.

Where did you get the cap?

The mighty eBay!

Search for M43 Field Cap and you'll be surprised how much militaria pops up!

Should have worn the jacket for the photo matey !

One of the 'pointy-headed-fast-streamer-types' up here has a genuine submarine "ping" as noticifaction thingy on his mobile.....

It sounds brilliant - you NEED this mobile ring tone thingy to complete your Kriegsmarine ensemble.

...and I need one of those caps ...oh and a Gebirgsjäger smock....

I'm also after a WWII A frame Bergen....... I digress....

Oh you need WWII Carl Zeiss Binoculars too.... quite affordable on Evil bay !

It was an impromptu photograph.

I acquired the sweater unexpectedly as mine host had hornswaggled a bunch from his place of employment and one actually fitted me (a tad more snug than I would have liked, but a fit nonetheless). I didn't take the jacket because, well, last weekend's weather, and the hat was only there because it had fallen off the ironing board into the bag with the kid's birthday pressies.

Maybe when the weather is cooler there will be a picture of the U-Boot commander looking more the part! As it is, with that combo in the picture and the fact it was getting dark when it was taken, there is a case for it being closer to the Panzer Leader than the U-Boat commander!

You could probably find a submarine to go with the hat, on ebay. Surely it'll fit in your stairwell?

It was US $34 including postage from the Far East (the cap itself cost $22). At current rates that's about £17.

Check out user barrylindon28 or eBay shop "spearhead militaria"
