>initiate sarcasm:< The journey home tonight was a joy. There were very few people on the platform and the train pulled in and stopped just as I walked to my customary spot. I got in and found a seat straight off. I sat down and started reading my book, for once having enough elbow room for comfort. Ten minutes or so into the journey it suddenly occurred to me just how cool and well-ventilated the carriage was, and how fresh smelling. The entire journey, including the walk at either end took an unprecedented 35 minutes and I arrived home fresh, cool and happy....>/end sarcasm mode<

Someone went under a train at Finchley Central. All trains for High Barnet terminated at Archway or were diverted to Golders Green. I was diverted to Golders Green. The buses were full and did not stop. I waited close on an hour before managing to get on one. I had to stand precariously on the upper deck for about 2/3 the journey to North Finchley and then wait for another bus. Fourteen miles from Victoria to Whetstone, 21/2 hours' travel time.

I knew there was a reason I didn't live in London. You have to go underground to travel and I don't do underground very well. I travelled to Whetstone once when my son lived there while he was posted to MOD and the tube keeps popping out of the ground and then plunging back in. I was shaking by the time we got to the stop - I think it was the last but one stop on the line. Anyway if you lived down yer it would only take you an hour to get across the whole city - about 5 miles I think

Have you contemplated a less, crap, less centrally London located, more fulfilling job?

I initially read that as "an extra coma snuck in there".

I thought blimey, Emm's seen where I work!

As to the main question, I think I am too institutionalized to change employers now, but I am looking for a new job. Sadly, prolly central London still.

It's your call of course, but I don't believe that "institutionalized" counts anymore. Still, f you enjoy the Echoing Corridors of Power, who am I to argue...

PS *hugs*

I was institutionalized for awhile once.
I got crayons, and tapioca for pudding on Fridays.
Then one of the doctors suddenly went to sleep after I biffed him with a months worth of tapioca in a sock, and I snuck out wearing his white coat, his ID-tag and his beard.
It's nice out here, but I miss the taste of those crayons.

Yeah, I wish someone would move those corpses, they're impeding my journey. They should install suicide points on all tube-lines: for the convenience of the modern commuter.

:p

Wot they said ^. Get out man, before something bursts. Can't the government ship you out to parts non-London? I know most of everything is seated in the belly of the great sucking parasite, but surely there must be some government somethings outside.

ONS is moving the rest of its departments to Newport with lots of people opting to lose their jobs and stay in London. That means more people after the jobs you are looking at. ONS doesn't mean just statistics though and the scenery is lovely yer now the coaldust have washed off. and we have lectric and piped water in our caves 'onest. We speaks english but we dooze it wiv a accent see. I carn yer it myself like but people from away - them in Chepstow an' Bristol like - they sez we do 'ave a accent like, so I spose we must like see innit?
