It seems only fair to mention [livejournal.com profile] trav28 at this point before I write anything else. I should have missed this little lot in its entirety had he not posted to his journal.

This would be the official Watchmen movie website, chronicling the development of the movie, which is a few months into shooting. However it turns out, initial pictures suggest that the look of the alternative New York is about right:

The Gunga Diner

and what looks like a certain gentleman walking by...

Cast:

Malin Akerman (upcoming The Heartbreak Kid) as Laurie Juspeczyk aka Silk Spectre

Billy Crudup (The Good Shepherd) as Jon Osterman, aka Dr. Manhattan

Matthew Goode (Match Point) as Adrian Veidt, aka Ozymandias

Jackie Earle Haley (Little Children) as Walter Kovacs, aka Rorschach

Jeffrey Dean Morgan (TV’s Grey’s Anatomy) as Edward Blake, aka the Comedian

Patrick Wilson (Little Children) as Dan Dreiberg, aka Nite Owl

I'd like to see some of these in their union suits and makeup; they don't look quite the way they should. But hey, that's what the FX and Art Departments are for...

Hmm, not bad.
I think now my concern will be that Snyder doesn't convey the darkness and seriousness of the comic.
Still, wait and see.

Goode is a suitable younger version of Law (who would have been ideal), he has that snooty patrician element to him.

I wonder what a Gilliam maxi-series would have been like.

Interesting...

Better than I had hoped for, but still have the fear.

So Ozymandias, the evil and aristocratic (at least in style) supervillain is the token Brit...quelle suprise (and no The Comedian doesn't count as a villain for a myriad very obvious reasons). Not that I have *any* expectations for this though I will conceed that those pics look pretty.

Well for the time being that's all we have to go on. Nil Desperandum: V for Vendetta was OK. At least I thought so.

I'm confused. You seem to have made an entire post about a film that doesn't exist. I assume this is an amusing literary conceit on your behalf.

V for Vendetta was better than From Hell...that's the best that can be said.

I wish I'd thought of that!

The film is being filmed as we speak for a release early in 2009.

Methinks thou'rt a bit harsh; I enjoyed it.

You credulous fool! He's not some kind of Republic serial director, they wouldn't have told us about the film if it hadn't wrapped 20 MINUTES AGO.

Mmmmmm calamari...

The photo of the street corner news stand is good, although the boy looks older than my memory of when I last read it.

Ooh, I like those pictures. I assume the worst with these things (not least because what works in a comic doesn't necessarily work in a film - see Sin City for prime example) but those do look good.

I thought V for Vendetta was okay, which is more than I thought of the comic.

I've never read the Watchmen Graphic novel.

Though I do have a signed copy of V for Vendetta.

That black leather jacket in photo 2 is familiar though...
