I have just submitted an application for a job on promotion, which I have high hopes for. If it was any closer fit to my skills and experience it would be called Bryan.

This from a man who managed to lose out on an in-post promotion a couple of years ago to someone else in the branch: wish me luck.

Onwards and upwards!

But imagine if you applied for Bryan, only to be told there was a more suitable candidate?

When I was at the Royal Oak a couple of months back I bumped into an old mate who was an EO with me. Everyone else from our circle bar him was an SEO. It is clearly your turn.
