caddyman: (baffled)
I have just got back from a weekend in South Cambridgshire with Mr & Mrs [livejournal.com profile] wallabok and my little Goddaughter who appears to be growing into a cute little hobbit. plus [livejournal.com profile] mikedrfc.

A good relaxing weekend with time to play a long game of Maharaja, drink a number of pints of Adnam's, watch Underworld and Pirates of the Caribbean on DVD.

And of course, it snowed. Unfortunately it them thawed pretty damn quickly so I was able to get back to London.

Harrumph.

I'm not sure if the train I caught was operated by Great Northern or WAGN, but either way, the railways like their little jokes, don't they? Having made a random timetable change which meant I needed a lift to the station because there suddenly wasn't time to walk, the train stopped at Royston and turfed us all off. Six minutes later another train appeared on precisely the schedule we were led to believe had been cancelled.

Of course, this was less fun that getting there on Friday night.

My trips to that part of the world are cursed. I can't actually remember the last time I tried to do the whole trip by public transport and had no problems. I left work early on Friday, and was back home by 6 pm. By 6.20 I was changed, packed and out. At 6.30 I was back at Clapham North tube; the tannoy announced delays as there had been a passenger accident at Charig Cross, so at Stockwell I crossed to the Victoria Line which is quicker anyway. Except that the train pulled out and promptly stopped in the tunnel. It took 40 minutes to make the 10 minute journey to Victoria due to signal failure. That we then picked up speed and did the rest of the journey to King's Cross in 1o minutes was of little comfort as the 7.06 to Cambridge was long gone and the next not due until 8.06.

So I rolled into Foxton at 9.20 instead of 8.20. Still, BEER was had at the White Horse and we poured out into the cold and headed off to start the weekend.

It got a lot better after that.

Apropos nothing: a quick reminder that Kill Bill Volume 2 is due out in just over a month and here's the cool poster there to:
