Farscape SG-1

News that may or may not be welcomed in the world of sci-fi geekdom is that Stargate SG-1 has been renewed for a ninth season, and Stargate: Atlantis has been given the go ahead for season two.

SG-1 season 8, whilst still enjoyable (in my opinion at least) is clearly not as strong as once it was, and the jury still needs some convincing on Stargate: Atlantis which doesn't really know where it's headed and is in great danger of turning into Trek-lite, which is nothing to boast about these days.

I know that [livejournal.com profile] pax_draconis for one has been disappointed by SG-1 in the past season, and has little time for Atlantis. I can't speak for the quality of what may happen in the respective new seasons, but both he and [livejournal.com profile] binidj may be interested to know that the rumour mill has Ben Browder and Claudia Black, both of Farscape fame set to join the cast of SG-1 in the new season. Browder seems to be signed up to play a Lt Colonel who may become part of SG-1. He has apparently been signed up for the full 20 episode season. Black is rumoured to be reprising her alien smuggler role from season 8 in a recurring capacity.

Amanda Tapping may not be in the first 5 episodes, and there is a possibility that Richard Dean Anderson may not appear at all, or return only as a recurring guest character. Michael Shanks is reportedly signed up for the new season, with no word on Christopher Judge.

God only knows what the revamped show will look like, and how the group dynamic will work.

Or maybe it's all just unfounded rumour.

That'll teach me to be cocky.

I have, these past few months, swanned past any number of people with any number of colds and such. I never caught a single one, not a sniff, hack or sore throat came my way. I can't actually remember the last time I had a cold, but I'm paying for it now!

I could cope a great deal better if I could just stop sneezing.

I'm going to lie down a bit, before doing more packing.

Fek.

The cold has kicked up a gear, and I am now a black belt in the art of snotti-sneeze-foo1.

I am treating this affliction with copious amounts of paracetamol, and then dousing by dose in dust2 and other gunk that pours off boxes I haven't moved in years, as I finish packing and sorting out the majority of the comic collection. Ten collector boxes were not enough, some remain in the photocopy paper boxes in which they have been stashed this many a year. Some in fact are hidden behind my CD collection, and in truth, I can't be fagged to shift that lot right now to get at the additional boxes. The bedroom and kitchen look like a battlefield wherein a Chinese laundry has invaded a bookstore as it is. There is a small, but functional trail from the door to the bed, and thence to the PC. Once the boxes of comics have gone, I shall be able to rearrange the trenches and make progress on sorting out which books and clothes I want to keep, and which are taking the long walk.

Once I've moved in at the other end, the Oracle informs me that investment in shelving and cabinets might be wise. I think he's probably right, if a little obvious.

For the first time in a couple of months, the Polish Brigadetm have been holding their meeting on the landing outside my room. It is the smallest landing in the building, and the furthest from the front door. Given that it is about one yard square, it defeats me why they must a) pick that spot, and b) converse as if they were calling across the Pripet Marshes in snipe breeding season.

I shan't miss that.

Time for a shower...

1Related, but not identical to the art of atch-foo-bless-u which is more of a performance art requiring audience participation.
2This is, of course, counter productive, but does allow me to blame the accumulated mank rather than a snotty little virus boogying
in my sinuses.
