Farscape SG-1
Friday, January 7th, 2005 01:33 amNews that may or may not be welcomed in the world of sci-fi geekdom is that Stargate SG-1 has been renewed for a ninth season, and Stargate: Atlantis has been given the go ahead for season two.
SG-1 season 8, whilst still enjoyable (in my opinion at least) is clearly not as strong as once it was, and the jury still needs some convincing on Stargate: Atlantis which doesn't really know where it's headed and is in great danger of turning into Trek-lite, which is nothing to boast about these days.
I know that
pax_draconis for one has been disappointed by SG-1 in the past season, and has little time for Atlantis. I can't speak for the quality of what may happen in the respective new seasons, but both he and
binidj may be interested to know that the rumour mill has Ben Browder and Claudia Black, both of Farscape fame set to join the cast of SG-1 in the new season. Browder seems to be signed up to play a Lt Colonel who may become part of SG-1. He has apparently been signed up for the full 20 episode season. Black is rumoured to be reprising her alien smuggler role from season 8 in a recurring capacity.
Amanda Tapping may not be in the first 5 episodes, and there is a possibility that Richard Dean Anderson may not appear at all, or return only as a recurring guest character. Michael Shanks is reportedly signed up for the new season, with no word on Christopher Judge.
God only knows what the revamped show will look like, and how the group dynamic will work.
Or maybe it's all just unfounded rumour.
