I am not very good at mornings, consequently unless some outside force is pushing me, they generally pass in an unproductive haze.

This morning then, is par for the course; I overslept, and the coffee hasn't yet kicked in. I must go out shortly and pay a couple of bills. I also need to pop into the post office and arrange to get my mail forwarded. There is a number of credit dards I'd like to avoid/evade, but I guess in this modern society of ours, I'd better not, so having the bills come to the new abode is the thing to do. And then to the launderette to wash the bedclothes - though I might skip that and wash it all after the move: living out of a sleeping bag for a day or two won't hurt.

In 24 hours it will all be over, and then you can read all these posts in reverse order, to simulate unpacking.

klik. Is this thing on?
Yes?
Great. OK Take One...

"Christ you know it ain't easy
You know how hard it can be
The way things are going
They're going to crucify me"

- Lennon/McCartney
The Ballad of John and Yoko

Many of us can remember when, not so long ago, they bestrode the world like giants, surveying the world from their lofty peak of power and fame.

Even those who are too young to remember personally, will have been regaled by their parents (or grandparents) of stories of how they insitigated a new order across three-fifths of the globe; how the sun never set on their mighty legions of followers; how in their name, Sergeant Pepper reigned supreme. They were held in awe, admiration, and yes, let's say it, love by millions (perhaps hundreds of miilions) around the globe.

But that was then; this is now1.

Since the announcement yesterday, the media pack are barking their usual frenzy. He can lead them, they say, but not wed. Especially not her. No, he cannot have his cake and eat it; demigods are not allowed the foibles of the merely mundane.

Not even the concept of Baggism, a cynical change of title, to be used instead of the term 'husband and wife' can save them from the ravings of an incandescent press...

So, with his ex wife not yet forgotten, John is to marry Yoko.

It will be the end of the band; those fans who miss poor Cynthia so much will not allow it. Mark my words, the band will break up over this.

Er... Cut!

Hang on, is this right? What wedding did you think we were supposed to be talking about....?

1Ironically, the name of a song by the Monkees.
