Now see here. Kingdom of Heaven and all that malarkey: Historical inaccuracies... overload imminent... odd plot holes.... arghh...

Balian of Ibelin wasn't a French nobleman's bastard at all. He was a younger son of Balian the Old, and already resident in Outremer. He never got off with the Princess Sybilla, though he did marry royalty (before he even met Sybilla).

OK, there was Baldwin IV, the leper king, but what happened to his nephew, Baldwin V, for whom Raymond of Tripoli stood as regent? I am guessing that Tiberias was actually supposed to be Raymond III of Tripoli (aka Raymond VI of Toulouse - I think). Gad, it's confusing stuff.

And Saladin. Not a bad bloke by the standards of the time, but he did demand a ransonm for every man, woman and child in Jerusalem....

Apart from odd little historical inaccuracies, How did that bloody horse survive the shipwreck, tied to the hull? Is sword fighting genetic? One lesson from dad, and Balian is the greatest warrior of his age? A bastard blacksmith from rainy/snowy northern France teaches the locals about irrigation?

Argh.

Mind, that fire in the blacksmith's forge must have been something. It was still smouldering at the end of the movie, three years later, story time.

I quite enjoyed the film, I have to say. That Julian Bashir bloke from Deep Space 9 played a good part, I thought. Very noble.
