It occurs to me, probably a little late in the day, that when you are sitting in the late evening at your computer, mulling over the fact that you have been knackered all day and should go to bed, washing down your stattin tablet with coffee is probably not the best preparation for a good night's sleep.

It also gives you the propensity to type in extremely long sentences without coming up for air, or including much punctuation. Not that my first sentence needed much punctuation, cunningly crafted as it was.

The past few days I have been avoiding buying a laptop. I've been toying with the idea of buying one for about 18 months or so, now. I'm not sure I actually need one, but I want one. The urge comes and goes, but at the moment I am riding the crest of an acquisitive wave, therefore the saner part of my mind has had to grit its teeth and steer the materialistic majority of me away from anywhere temptation might empty my wallet onto the counter and say "he wants one of those. Now!"

I'd like to say that it was will power that has kept me away from computer shops, but I'd be kidding myself. I have very little will power, and most of what I do have is dedicated to stopping my trousers falling down. No, I am using my own innate laziness as a weapon in the war against pointless acquisition. It is easier to stay in front of the PC at work and play minesweeper for 20 minutes than it is to walk down Victoria Street and argue with myself over the merits of buying a lap top or not. If I can time the game of minesweeper right, by the time I crack and get ready to go out and spend money, the shop is already closing for the night and I just go and catch the tube home.

I have to be on constant guard against myself.

Ooh. Empire Direct on-line electronic goodness...
