Bleak House
Monday, May 8th, 2006 08:14 amToday we have an 'Awayday' from work.
In Stratford, east London: the only place on the planet where the local pound shop employs security guards. How much pilfering (in tonnes) to you have to prevent at £1 an item to justify employing a couple of security guards?
We are taking a tour of the Olympic sites. Given that we are about 8 months into the relevant 6 year development programme, I expect this to be a largely conceptual experience. My walkman is fully charged; I shall listen to a lot of Pink Floyd especially Wish You Were Here which seems to highlight the pathos of industrial decay quite nicely. I shall also take my camera, though I haven't got used to the idea of taking random free photos yet and will probably not use it. I might take my sonic screwdriver, too. I will probably use that.
I hope the coach is comfy and I can get some sleep.
I'm bored already and I haven't even got dressed yet, much less left for this great adventure.
And it's raining.
