Plate, tech, tonic

Beddy-byes for Bryan shortly, I think. I had intended to go a bit earlier, but I have spent a large part of this evening flummoxed by technology and time passed to the extent that I didn't have dinner until close on eleven this evening, so I decided that maybe I'd wait a while before creeping under the duvet.

Webcams, see. Pain the arse. I don't even want to use it as a webcam; I want to use the inbuilt microphone to talk on Skype. It's done it before, but it refuses to work now. Admittedly I can't remember which of the jack sockets I used last time, but there's only four of the buggers and none seem to do the trick any more. Why it can't just send everything down the bloody USB port is beyond me.

Oh well.

As for the rest of today, well a bit of a wash out, thanks for asking. I slept badly last night on account of the cough - or rather I slept well but spasmodically, so when the alarm went off at 7.30 this morning, I woke up, yawned and then wondered why the radio had gone quiet. Well that would be because between switching the phone alarm off, the radio alarm coming on and me yawning, a time displacement that would have had Mulder wetting himself occurred. Between the start of the yawn and the end of it, a mere 75 minutes passed and suddenly I was late.

Late, I should add, for work, not as in the Late Bryan Lea. I realise that typing that out is a little redundant, but well, that bloke at the back - you know who I mean - well, he is a bit slow. I spent far too much of the day trying to find very simple words to explain a very complex thing to a very stupid person. It was very wearing.

Ironic, then, that I should be so awake now at the fag end of the day.

[livejournal.com profile] colonel_maxim and [livejournal.com profile] ruletwo are in Tallinn tonight. Capital of sunny Estonia. I have the Athenaeum Club to myself until Friday evening.

True to form, I have nothing planned to take advantage of this opportunity. I may have a G&T to see the night off.

That's it, folks.

Your correspondent continues to be confounded by technology.

I can now speak to people using Skype, but to do so, I have lost the use of my speakers. With the current set up it is one or the other, it seems. This is not a tragedy however, as my speakers have been on the blink for some time, having fallen down the back of the computer desk one time too many. If I want to adjust the volume on them, I have to tinker to get anything out of the right speaker and this is becoming extremely tiresome. I think the weekend will see me splashing out on a set of new speakers I can run through the USB port then I can have music and chat.

My life will be complete. Really.

In further news, I have taken the momentous decision that over the forthcoming weekend I shall Spring Clean The Tower. Or at least the bedroom portion. I quite like the homely chaos that is my computer room, but I am told that I am in a minority on that one. The decision arrived part formed in the old melon while I was looking out CDs to play for [livejournal.com profile] ellefurtle, and the amount of accumulated dust on the racks was truly astonishing. Since then I have been considering the other bits of detritus hanging around the place and have come to the rather belated conclusion that a lot of it can go in the bin. I don't use it, and in the clothes section, with all the will in the world I'm never going to fit into some of that stuff ever again short of expensive surgery. And some of it is so dated that even I, arch antifashionista that I am, would find it embarrassing to wear.

Of course, there is plenty of time between now and the weekend, and I may yet just succumb to lolling around listening to music and musing over what might have been. It's an option.

The cough has yet to abate fully, but is clearly running scared of my constant failure to douse it with real medication other than occasional long pulls on the Benylin bottle (medicine spoons are for wimps) and consumption of Strepsils to suppress the cough reflex.

I am hopeful of snatching a few minutes uninterrupted sleep tonight. That will be nice.

I think that's it. These posts are a bit boring all of a sudden; surreality must be on holiday for the time being. If you are conversing with a pink trout in a cabbage patch by a mangrove swamp on a cloud, do tell me. I'd like to know where the oddness in my life has gone recently. I miss it like a dry kipper on August Bank Holiday.

Don't mind me; that's the Benylin talking. Maybe medicine spoons aren't such a bad idea after all...
